1. Is this another self help project?

No it is not.

We do not advocate any particular way of thinking or techniques to change ourselves or our world.

What we are interested in is contributing to the movement that is spreading across the world to change the way the world currently works. We consider the status quo of unfairness, injustice and exploitation of the world’s people and resources as unsustainable.

Our vision is to do this by providing opportunities for anyone who is interested in what we are doing to join us to create the world we, and they, wish to live in; of peace, love, happiness and respect for one and all.

The process is intuitive and it is personal to every individual. Our focus is on providing the environment to facilitate this process at an individual or group level, with likeminded women and men, to determine what range of tools we may need to aid our journey of transformation.

2. What do you mean by: “The world will change as women have space to think and men to feel?”

This statement is our slogan for the Feel the Change project. It is based on our assessment that a major obstacle to change is the way in which we are conditioned, as women or men, to think and feel about ourselves.

Men and women, equally, want to be happy, peaceful and loving. After all, this is what our daily struggles are about. And yet, our cultural, social and economic structures put men and women in separate boxes, denying us the ability to make balanced use of all our faculties for thinking and feeling. As a result women are encouraged to rely more on their feelings and men on thinking.

This has led to a disconnection from our inner selves, each other as men and women and individuals. In fact, we would go as far as to say that the violence and anger that consume our world, from the school gate to the football grounds, are the result of this imbalance within that we are forced to live with daily and then pass on to our children.

We believe that for us to transform ourselves and by extension our world, women have to begin to think actively about who we are, why we are here and our role in creating a better world for our children. Only then, as the primary carers of our children, can we support our sons and daughters to access those feelings and thoughts that are necessary for a peaceful, loving and happy world.

3. Do you have any specific belief system, religion or ideology?

We do not promote any ideology, philosophy, political view or belief system and do not wish for any member or individual of Mi Casita or Kosmo People to do so, on our behalf.

4. How do you intend to change the world?

Our focus is on supporting the transformation of our world by transforming ourselves, individually, from where we are at.

Our Read and Transform campaign is about awakening our conscience. It challenges us to decide what we think about the issues facing our world and then to design our own path to change, or not.

As part of this commitment, we have in turn gifted half of the revenues from the campaign to our sister project Kosmo People to deliver the change agenda with ordinary women and men, at whatever level they wish to engage with us.

5. How do you see men’s involvement in this project?

We do genuinely welcome men’s involvement in this project. In fact, the first person to subscribe to our club was a man and we do have men who are founding members as well as Friends of Mi Casita.

Yet, our research with men shows that, at first glance, because of our stated mission to support women with changing our world, some men have felt excluded. But once they get to understand why we have taken this approach, they appreciate what they stand to gain from our work. Creating an alternative social and economic model which enables women to rebalance their lives fosters an environment in which men can in turn express their feelings. In effect: Happy Women = Happy World.

6. Your approach appears to lay emphasis on the role of the individual to the change the world. Is this practical?

It is true that when we talk about changing the world, we lay emphasis on the individual’s role in the process of change. It is because we agree that is when the ‘I’ changes that ‘my’ world changes. That is, my personal world, my perceptions and experiences in that world, changes. In this sense, no one can change me, the individual. I must decide to change the attitudes and belief systems that prevent me from reaching my potential to be who I am.

We do not believe that people can be forced by other people to change. It is a choice that they must make for themselves. However, as increasing numbers of people come to agree that they have a responsibility to contribute to change, they have the potential to bring about rapid change. Inevitably, the change that must take place will be done by individuals cooperating together, guided by basic human values and a sense of commitment and responsibility, to be the change they wish to see in their world.

7. Do you have ambitions to be involved in politics?

A few people have asked this question and some believe that we should be. We think that becoming a member of Kosmo People is a political statement in the sense that people are seeking an alternative to the status quo. We believe that this is where politics as we know and understand it should begin and end.

Our vision is simple. We have no ideology and our community is open to anyone who cares about a better world. We also believe that if people can make a direct choice with their vote to influence and shape the world they wish to live in, it is unnecessary to subcontract their choices to a middle person, a politician, to act on their behalf.

8.  Do you have a strategy for delivering this vision?

9. Is this project not just a clever marketing gimmick for selling the books in the How would that make you feel? series?

It is true that some people might reach this conclusion. It is also true that it is a clever idea. But, it is not a gimmick.

When the author finished writing the books, she was determined to ensure that ordinary people got to read it and that it did not become another thesis on change.

She carefully set about engaging ordinary people like herself, primarily women (who she believes are a major key to change simply because they are the primary carers of our children), to think through the type of support they would need to bring about the change they wanted in their lives.

It was crucial that whatever solutions they came up with did not just benefit the people they knew but reached as many people across the world as possible. Read and Transform was the result of this painstaking process.

It allows us to support women and men, who like what we are doing at Mi Casita, to engage in transforming their lives at the micro level but also at the macro level.

It is a balance we are committed to maintaining and have worked very hard to evolve. It is a long term approach to transformation that can also be extended to other creative people who wish to share their skills both literally and figuratively.

10. What happens to the money that is raised from the Read and Transform campaign?

One hundred percent of the revenues gifted to Mi Casita is shared between Mi Casita and our sister community, Kosmo People.

Mi Casita’s focus is on developing solutions that support women, in our role as the primary carers of our children, to play an active role in the transformation of our world.

Kosmo People’s focus is on the development of the world as it can be with services and products designed, developed and delivered and voted for by Kosmo People – ethically, fairly and sustainably.

All revenues will be recycled into both projects to continue to deliver on our objectives. Please take a look at  our approach for more information.

11. Is this a one-off payment or an annual payment?

Your subscription to the Read and Transform campaign is a one-off payment which entitles you, as outlined in our literature, to a vote to influence our delivery and shape our priorities.

12. What happens to the money if I subscribe to more chapters?

The income from subsequent chapters read will follow the fifty/fifty split of the subscriptions gifted to Mi Casita, between Mi Casita and Kosmo People. In addition, we have set up a Change Makers collective which will receive a contribution of ten percent of the revenues generated through the Read and Transform campaign from both communities. This will be invested in skills development and innovation.

13. What type of commitment do you expect from members of Kosmo People?

We really believe that people cannot give what they do not have to give and that everyone will contribute what they can as they can. With this approach in mind, the first and only step required if you like what we are doing is to join Kosmo People. Then it is up to you to contribute what you can as and when you can.

14. The people who work for the project, are they volunteers or are they paid to do their work?

As we generate revenues from the Read and Transform campaign, ten percent of what is gifted to us will be invested in the Change Makers collective, five percent from Mi Casita and five percent from Kosmo People.

Skills development, innovation and fair pay will be priorities. We are also committed to ensuring that the sense of fulfillment of our individual change makers is as important as the sense of fulfillment of the community they serve.

15. How is this project going to help ordinary people who are struggling to survive?

We believe that creating the world that we would like to live in should be a simple process which builds on the knowledge and expertise we already have in the world.

What is different is the consciousness of the people who make up the community about promoting values that support the individual and his or her community’s wellbeing and to do so as transparently as possible.

Therefore, we expect that as we develop and deliver services and products required by the community, we automatically create opportunities for jobs, creativity and abundance for the community and all of its members. All revenues generated will be recycled back into the community.

In the end, however, no one is obligated to give what they do not have to give and as a result what they put in will reflect, naturally, what they get out of it.

16. When can we expect to see some practical examples of changes happening in our world?

We must be careful not to raise expectations that we cannot deliver on. We have kept the price point for joining very low to minimise the expectations of individual members of the community.

However, because of the tremendous potential of this model for transformation, we are optimistic that as we reach mass support for our vision, we would be in a position to deliver an infrastructure for working with the community within six to nine months of starting work on the development phase.

We will nonetheless keep the community regularly updated on developments and would expect to begin to see some concrete timelines for delivering tangible services and products for change within a year of the start of development work.

17. Who are members of Mi Casita and where do they come from?

Members of Mi Casita are mostly, not all, friends of the author of the How would that make you feel? book series who accepted her invitation to practice the art of happiness together.

Many of us live in Andalusia, southern Spain, and make up a total of sixteen nationalities. The founding members are a small group of only thirty people including five men. However, we now have another tier of membership called Friends of Mi Casita.

Our friends come from all over the world and include people who are close friends as well as those who have contributed time and resources to our development. A global network for women is planned to share the good practice and experiences on our journey practicing the art of happiness.

We plan to do the same with our sister community, Kosmo People. All members of Mi Casita and Change Makers are also members of Kosmo People.

20. How do I choose which community to be a part of?

It is a good idea to start with Kosmo People to be kept updated on developments in general. During your registration, you will be asked which Kosmo community you are interested in supporting.

As you read more to transform, your community also benefits from your subscriptions. This is in addition to the Kosmo People fund which will be invested directly in developing services and products to develop the global community.

22. Why are the books only available online?

The How would that make you feel? book series was written with the explicit aim of engaging ordinary people in the change agenda.

Online publishing enables us to engage large numbers of people, instantly, in the Read and Transform campaign and to do so in an ecologically friendly and efficient manner.

An extra benefit is that by logging in to read the books, readers are more likely to engage consciously with what they are reading and potentially with other readers in our global network of book clubs, in development.

We are aware that some people, particularly those of a certain generationJ, prefer paper to the screen but we urge them to think of the millions of trees that we have potentially saved through this medium of publication.

Our Flash books work on computers, laptops and iPads. However other tablet and mobile devices may work depending on their operating system and web browser being able to read web pages in the same manner.

23. Do you have a downloadable version for Kindle and other reading platforms?

No. This is something we must think through carefully. We are keen to retain as much control over this project as possible until we are in a position to verify that the people or corporations we work with, or partner with, share values that align with ours.

In addition, we wish to develop a community based on the Facebook model which consciously logs on to read the books and other content and in time, to interact with other readers and members of our community. In due course, we hope to develop a range of platforms for people to access content from Kosmo People.

24. Do you intend to publish print versions of the books?

Yes, we do, at some point in the future when we have a suitably robust environmental policy in place which ensures that we replace the resources we require to publish in print.
